David Ogilvy: I am a lousy copywriter
Via Letters of Note.
One of my hobbies is analyzing the creative process across disciplines. There always seems to be this set of themes: research, synthesize, iterate, consolidate, curate. Look at Ogilvy’s list - the themes are in there, along with his idiosyncratic rituals too.
A couple years ago I saw a beautiful diagrammatic encapsulation of the creative process. It manages to clearly visualize both the expansive and the subtractive processes involved in the act of creation.
I am seeing these themes in my classes about design, in my old stomping grounds in computer science, and in my class about entrepreneurship too.
Is this the flavour of the decade? I suspect not. I suspect there’s something enduring about these processes. What do you think?
